It may not feel like winter outside, but we are bringing winter into the classroom! The Preschool Prep class has been learning a lot and having a blast with these winter themed activities!
We had a penguin science day in Preschool Prep where we completed a cute craft, did an experiment, and learned all about penguins! (We even got to waddle like them).
We learned that penguins do something called “preening” which means that they oil their feathers to keep them from getting wet. We tried to help the kids really understand this concept in our classroom! We colored one penguin with a crayon (the crayon wax representing the oil), and we left one penguin bare. We sprayed both with colored water and saw that the penguin that had been colored in crayon (on the right) did not soak up the water, and stayed more dry than the one without crayon (on the left).
We went on a letter ice excavation! The kids had to hammer through ice blocks to save their letter!
It was too cold to play out in the snow, so we brought snow into our classroom and decided to paint it!
The Preschool Prep class put on their creativity caps and made some very cool sculptures and shapes with marshmallows and toothpicks!
“Do you want to build a snowman?”
Snowflake decorating and counting!
Snowman Number Bingo!
Whats better than homemade hot coco on a chilly day?! The smiles on these kids’ faces says it all!
Arctic animals, sensory bins and dramatic play!
