In our discovery tubs the toddlers found farm animals, corn, straw, birdseed and tongs.
When kids use tongs, they have to learn to “separate” the two sides of their hands (thumb/index finger side and middle/ring/pinky finger side), which is a great for developing hand skills, necessary for cutting with scissors and writing with pencils. Tong play can begin as early as toddlerhood and can progress to more refined use of kiddie chopsticks and tiny tweezers as kids progress through elementary school. It’s never too late to have fun with tongs! *

We have so much fun using paint dotters in the Toddler classroom. And this is a great activity to strengthen their fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills.
Today we drew a few pumpkins on butcher paper. Inside our pumpkins we drew small circles for the toddlers to dot on.

For the month of October, we’re talking about the season change (leaves changing colors, pumpkin patches, temperature changes and much more). In this weeks discovery tub, the toddlers found leaves, pinecones, acorns, apples, cinnamon sticks, pumpkins and gourds. Take a look to see how much fun we had finding these items together.
