  • Broccoli Prints!

All week we’ve been having fun talking about vegetables and cooking with them. Today instead of cooking with veggies, we are painting with them! The children took their turns pressing broccoli  in brown paint, then using their fingers to make cherry blossoms on the tree! Their art work turned out great!

  • Making Muffins!

Another cooking day is here! Today we read If you give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff and talked about cooking at home. The boys and girls did a great job adding the ingredients and helping to mix it all together. The children really enjoyed making these yummy Carrot Muffins!

Today we reviewed our shapes by using them to make art! This activity helps the children to improve their hand muscles for writing skills as well their color sense. The children love to paint!

  • Moving into Associative Play!

Toddlers begin with parallel play (Parallel play is characterized by children playing the same game next to each other but with very little interaction).  As they turn 2 1/2  to 3 they begin playing with the same thing next to each other and talking, but not yet working together to create something.  This is called associative play.  It is so exciting to see this beginning in our class 009 !

  • Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?

We’ve been reading this wonderful Eric Carle Book during our Arctic theme this month.  The children love the repetitive language and rhythmic text.  By day two they were reading right along with us!  Reading books with rhyme and predictable text helps children begin to understand story structure.  They are able to figure out what is coming next and better understand difficult vocabulary.

  • Building our Fine Motor Muscles

In order to help prepare children for writing and other activities that require small movements in the hands, we must first build the small muscles in the hands and fingers.  There are many activities that help build these muscles.  Today we used small spoons to transfer “snowballs” from bowls into our sorting trays.
