  • Extra, extra read all about our newspaper letter N’s!

Learning the letter N and associating it with words and names we already know was very exciting today.  While tracing the shape of the letter with our finger, we learned the sound that the N makes, and discussed items that begin with the letter N, such as nose, no, noise, note and newspaper.  Using a glue stick, the children traced the N again, then tore newspaper to glue onto the N (excellent fine motor practice!).  Some children remembered that they have the letter N in his/her name!

  • Discovering the Texture of an Adobe Home

Ms. Lori gave us the opportunity to learn about Adobe Homes today during our art experience.  We learned that adobe homes are found in Mexico and throughout the southwestern United States.  We also learned that these homes are made of a mixture of sand, clay and water and formed into bricks before building They are used in these areas because they help keep the homes cool in the heat of the desert.  We used a sandy mixture to paint our own adobe home in a desert environment.

  • Discovery the Parts of a Sunflower

The PreK students had the opportunity to discover the parts of a sunflower up close in our science study.  We dissected the sunflowers we had in our classroom for a closer look.  We also learned how to properly use a magnifying glass during science discovery.

The students were introduced to a recipe in the Tuesday afternoon class and used it along with Ms. Courtney’s help to create their own play dough.  The recipe was sent home and is super easy!  Great idea for a rainy afternoon.

  • Our Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe

    Gingerbread Play-Dough

    Ingredients

    • 1 Cup flour
    • 1/2 Cup salt
    • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
    • Spices--Cinnamon, Allspice, Ginger, Nutmeg

    What you do:

Mix the dry ingredients. Add spices a small amount at a time until the dough smells and looks like you want it too. Mix water and oil together first and then add them to the dry ingredients and stir. In a pot, cook the mixture for two to three minutes, stirring frequently. The dough will start to pull away from the sides of the pot and stick together. When this happens, take the playdough out of the pan and knead the dough until it becomes soft and smooth. Allow the dough to cool and then store it in an airtight container.
