  • Growing Readers: Sight Word Sentences

Using our new sight word for the week, we created our own sight word sentence to practice and to illustrate.  Reading sentences provides the students with an opportunity to practice one to one correspondence, directional movement (reading left to right), develop the understanding of the differences between letters and words, and recognize familiar sight words.

    I see Georgie.

    I see the flower.

    I see the pumpkin.

    I see Mator.

    I see the truck.

  • The Thanksgiving Feast

In reading groups today we started the book The Thanksgiving Feast. We went on a picture walk to search for sight words. We read the book together and connected the first Thanksgiving to our own Thanksgiving celebrations with friends and family. The Pre-Kers circled the sight word ‘will’ and colored the illustrations of the book.

  • Make, Make, Make

In reading groups today the Pre-Kers focused on the sight word ‘make’. While reading our book of the week, Making Bubbles, we were exposed to the sight word used in context. Next we listened and identified the beginning sound of ‘make.’ We searched for pictures that had the same beginning sound. To close reading groups for today we searched for the sight word ‘make’. Working with sight words in different ways promotes comprehension and memory.
