We are learning about the shape of a circle this month. We used liquid watercolor to match up all the circles on our painting!
We began talking about the difference between 2D and 3D shapes in math group today. Seven 3D shapes were introduced along with reviewing six 2D shapes. Then, we had the opportunity to sort them on our smartboard game. Click the first picture below to follow the link to the game we played. It’s a great game for the computer at home!
The children were introduced to 3-D shapes this month: Cube, cone, sphere, cylinder. They reached into the mystery box and used their sense of touch to identify the attributes of the shape inside and ultimately the name of the shape. They did a wonderful job!
This afternoon we started practicing our pre-writing skills at our writing center. Natalie and Rohan were concentrating hard on tracing their shapes and letters.
Connor loved sorting the buttons onto the different color jars. As he sorted the buttons, we talked about the different colors and shapes of each one.
This afternoon during group time, we used our friend Mr. Scarecrow to talk about shapes! The kids each had a turn to come up to the scarecrow and choose a shape from his clothes. We talked about the color and shape that each child was holding.
Today the kids were practicing their shapes and patterning with a small grou activity. Abby and Ryan loved matching the foam shapes with their patterning strips. We talked about the color of the shapes, the name of the shapes, and the different patterns on each strip. They wanted to do it over and over again!
