  • Who has been to the Dentist?

This month we are talking about community helpers.  This week we are focusing on the denstist and mailman.  Today during group time we asked everyone who had been to the dentist before and how important it is to take  care of our teeth!  We also played a game with teeth!  Each tooth had either a shape or letter on it.  The kids had to close their eyes while Ms. Sarah hide the baby tooth behind one of the labeled teeth.  When they opened their eyes, each child had a chance to guess where the tooth was hidden by describing which tooth they thought it was behind.  This was a great activity for practicing letter recognition and our shapes and colors!

  • Exploring Pumpkin Textures…

    pumpkintextures

Shape, pattern, and texture are properties important not only in art but in science and math as well. Preschoolers need engaging opportunities to explore these concepts.

Evelyn is very concentrated on exploring the pumpkins and gourds from our science shelf!  She is using her magnifying glass to really study the different bumps on the pumpkins.  She was talking about the different colors and shapes on the pumpkins and even moved positions to get a really good look!

Helping promote the recognition of healthy emotions in the toddler classroom

Today at group time we learned the song “5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate”.  We are also talking about the color orange this month so it was fun to talk about the color of the pumpkins!  The shape we are focusing on this month is a triangle.  The kids loved playing the pumpkin face game by telling me what shapes I  should use for the face of the pumpkins.  The concepts of “happy” and “sad” are also important to talk about with children at this age.  The children laughed when I made one pumpkin a happy pumpkin and the other pumpkin a sad pumpkin.

Below is the song we learned today so you can sing it at home!

“5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate”

5 Little pumpkins sitting on a Gate,

The first one said “Oh my it’s getting late!”

The second one said “There are witches in the Air!”

The third one said “But we don’t care!”

The fourth one said “Let’s run and run and run!”

The fifth one said “I’m ready for some fun!”

    Ohhhh Ohhhh went the wind!

    And OUT went the lights!

Then five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!
