  • Go Green!

A new month means a new theme: Go Green!  As we learn about recycling, the children explore the new activities in each center.  We spent time today learning about the new activities and how they are used.

  • Spring Scissor Skills

Throughout the year we have been working on our shapes, along with our fine motor skills.  Today, the children celebrated spring on this beautiful day by cutting out shapes that had spring pictures on them, and then strung them onto yarn.  The children loved creating their very own spring necklaces!

  • Australian Flags

Touching on social studies, the boys and girls created their very own Australian flag! The blue represents vigilance, truth and loyalty.  The white stands for peace and honesty.  The red stands for bravery and strength.  The boys and girls did an excellent job creating these works of art!

  • Groundhog Day!

February 2nd never goes unnoticed!  Today, the children learned what a groundhog is, where it lives and who the most famous groundhog in the world is.  After watching a video of Punxatawny Phil, the children made their very own groundhogs.  We also worked on our cognition with groundhog concentration.  Have you asked your child if Phil saw his shadow today?

Today we made….you guessed it!  Patterns!  Using our pattern blocks, we created ABABAB patterns using shapes and colors.  We also used pattern block templates to discover the shapes and how they work together.  They also learned how to use simple objects at home to create a pattern.

  • Rectangles

Rectangles are so similar to squares, they are easy to confuse!  They boys and girls were rectangle detectives today as we found items around the room that were in the shape of a rectangle.  We prepared ourselves by reading a book about rectangles and discussing the similarities and differences between rectangles and squares.  Can’t get much past these boys and girls!

  • Snowmen Without…Snow?!

Even though our snow has melted, that doesn’t keep us from building our own snowman!  Today, we made paper mache snowmen.  Mixing equal parts water and flour, the children got ooey gooey by slathering our balloon snowmen with pasty newspaper.  This two-part project has a ways to go.  Next Thursday, we will get to decorate the snowmen by getting ooey gooey again when making them white (shaving cream anyone?!), and topping them off with their proper decorations.  We can’t wait to to see the finished product!
