In celebration of Valentine’s day and all things love, our shape of the month is the heart! Today the boys and girls painted pink hearts using a stencil!
This month we will be learning about the color pink. During group time, we have been reading the book, “Little Pink Book”, and searching around the room for objects that are pink. The children used their fine motor skills to paint pink flamingos during art center and hearts at the easel.

For our first pet craft of the month we made calico cats out of shapes! The children used their fine motor skills to add circle eyes, triangle ears, rectangle whiskers, and a heart nose. During this activity we went over shape and color recognition!
The Toddlers have been working on sorting over the past couple of months. This week the boys and girls worked on sorting hearts by shape and color. The children were put into small groups and practiced taking turns sorting into different piles. They’re doing a great job!
The early 3’s have been learning to use markers and crayons to make circles this month! To make it a little more fun, we covered the table with foil and let the children use markers to make their circles all over the foil. The children had a blast making the circles and seeing the effects of writing on the foil!
This month the Toddlers have been working on identifying rectangles. The boys and girls went over color recognition and counting to five during this activity!
We have been talking about rectangles this month. We have been talking about how rectangles have four sides and are longer than squares. Today, we looked for rectangles in our city landscape pictures!
The Toddlers have been talking about all things winter this month. During group time, we have been going over clothing that keeps you warm when it’s cold outside. During art, the boys and girls took turns decorating mittens with rectangles (our shape of the month). We went over shape and color recognition as they used fine motor skills to make their art.
