  • Jovial January

Happy New Year from the studio toddler room!  The weather has kept us busy indoors this month but we have filled our days with crafts, discovery bins, winter centers, stories, dancing, and learning through play.  Our color focus is white and our shape is the triangle so we incorporated these focus targets into most of our centers, small groups, whole group and purposeful play.

  • Toddler Halloween

The costumes….oh my!  Animals, super heros, princesses, dinosaurs, cowboys, ghosts, and more!  Such a fun party with games, crafts, and special I is for ice cream snack!

  • Orientation Week in the Toddler Room

We are so “hoppy” to have had a terrific frog theme inspired orientation week.  The children explored the classroom, played outside, made some new friends, sang Five Little Speckled Frogs, and did a sticker craft.  We are so excited about the year ahead!

  • Sensory Experiences

We are enjoying the wonders of winter and the color white through sensory experiences.  Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore.

Shaving cream on the tables provided an interesting textured sensory activity.  It also provides an empty canvas to practice drawing shapes, letters, and lines.

Our sensory bin and discovery tubs provided different textures and items to sort and pour.

Maurice Sendak’s Chicken Soup with Rice provided an activity to use all of our senses including taste!  We read the book, danced to the video with song by Carole King, and tasted chicken soup with rice!

  • Buggin’ Out in the Toddler Room

We have been focusing on bugs, spiders, insects and creepy crawlers this month.  The toddlers have sorted insects by color and shape.  We have also read lots of stories, sang songs, and did puppet activities involving bugs.  Our class created insect crowns to practice fine motor skills with stickers.  We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, then reacted the story using magnets, and made a craft practicing patterns.  A sensory bin filled with insects and magnifying glasses have kept our toddlers engaged. We have been buggin’ out this month!

  • Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate…  We have had so much fun with this little song.  We did an art project with pumpkin stickers, read several book versions, put 5 pumpkins on the magnet board, and acted the song out.  We also made yummy pumpkin muffins, decorated mini pumpkins with washi tape, and played hot pumpkin (a version of hot potato).  Our sensory bin for the month has been pumpkin seeds with scoops and tins to “make pumpkin pie”.  We also plan to use all of our senses to explore the outside and inside of a pumpkin!  Happy orange October!
