During the month of March, we will be going over name recognition as well as reviewing our colors (in the rainbow). Today the boys and girls took turns finding their name by adding rainbow sand on top of glue. They used their fine motor skills to scoop and dump assorted sand over their paper. Once all of the colors were added, the child’s name magically appeared!
This month we have been learning about pets in the Toddler room. In the dramatic play area, the children can feed their animals bottles, play with their “pet’s” toys, and care for them in the pet nursery. During small groups, the boys and girls took turns giving the dirty dogs a bath. The tubs were filled with soapy warm water and the children washed off the spots. They loved splashing around in the water while caring for their pets! 🙂
Playing with blocks provides endless opportunity for the development of emerging perceptual-motor skills. While exploring blocks, the children are developing hand-eye coordination. The Toddlers love to stack blocks as high as they can and knock them down. This week we used blocks at the table. The boys and girls built tall foam towers using shaving cream and manipulated thistle blocks during another center.
To celebrate Valentine’s day the Toddlers enjoyed decorating special treats. We had cupcakes, cookies, and rice krispy treats decorated with frosting and pink sprinkles.
Today the Toddlers finger painted pet snakes. The boys and girls loved feeling the cold and slimy paint run through their fingers. We made sure to wear our smocks so we did not get paint on our clothes!
We made our very own batch of snow play dough today in small groups. Â We measured and mixed the ingredients found on the recipe to create a wonderful bowl full of fun. Â Our special ingredient was of course…glitter to make it sparkle like freshly fallen snow.
