  • Scientific Method and Penny Experiment!

The KPrep class has been learning about the scientific method and doing experiments! After watching a video, we went through the steps of the scientific method as we conducted an experiment together.  Our first experiment is below! We were trying to find out which liquid would clean the dirty pennies best (vinegar was the winner!).

  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

The KPrep class has been learning about the forest habitat this month. Recently we have been focusing on the brown bear.  We read “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” and made a bear hunt treasure map!

  • Preschool Science Day: The Pond Habitat

    1 2

Pond water was murky and cloudy and gross!

    3

What is all that green stuff floating around? Algae!

    4 5 6

Cat tails were fun to break open.  They are so soft and fuzzy.

    7 8

We learned how lily pads are covered with a waxy coating, like wax paper, that’s why they float!

    9

Time to make our very own Pond Habitat!  First the water, then the algae, then the cat tails!

We loved learning about the Pond.  Now we’re off to the Forest Habitat!

  • We’re Going On A Leaf Hunt!!!

  • Preschool Science Day: Red-eared Slider Turtle

    1

With our study of Ponds well under way, it was time to learn about a turtle!!!

    2 3 4

The Red-eared Slider Turtle made a trip to our classroom.  They don’t have any teeth or saliva.  Their shells are different than a Painted Turtle.

    6

    “I see it’s red ears!!!”

    7 8 9 10

We drew a big circle to make our turtle’s shell.

    11 12 13

We are so excited to take home out Red-eared Slider.  Be sure to ask your kiddos some fun facts!

  • We Have Tadpoles!

We are learning all about the pond habitat this month in K Prep!  This week we are learning about the life cycle of a frog.  We watched a video, worked together to put the stages in order, and then we even made our own frog life cycles!

Since we are learning so much about frogs, we of course had to have our very own tadpoles to watch as they go from tadpole to frog!  We learned that tadpoles have to live in the water just like fish and they breathe with gills!  We loved seeing them swim in their bowl.

  • Pond Habitat!

This month is all about the Pond Habitat and we are learning so much!  We learned that ponds are bodies of water surrounded by land and are filled with rain water.  The animals that we will be learning about this month were also introduced; frogs, ducks, beavers, and this week’s focus, the box turtle!

      IMG_0461

Most of us have seen a turtle before and so in our small groups we talked about what we already knew about turtles!  We read the story Box Turtle at Long Pond and we learned so many new facts about turtles that we added to our list!

    IMG_0456

I would say we are quite the turtle experts now!

  • Preschool Science Day: The Praying Mantis

    1

Ms. Sarah was off on one of her adventures and found this Praying Mantis!!!

    2

    6

We learned it only has one ear…and it’s located on it’s bottom.

    7 8 9

It was FAST when we took it out of the Mason Jar!

    10 11 12

Since we couldn’t keep it for a pet, we all wanted to color one to take home.

    13 14 15 16

    Thanks Ms. Sarah!!!

  • Ocean Habitat: The Pufferfish

    IMG_9843

Time to learn about the Pufferfish!!!

    IMG_9848

Miss Sarah compared the size of the fish inflated vs. deflated.

    IMG_9852 IMG_9857 IMG_9861

Can you submerge the inflated Pufferfish?!

    IMG_9864 IMG_9867 IMG_9871

Pretend you’re an Eel trying to attack the deflated Pufferfish.

    IMG_9876 IMG_9877

Now try to be the Eel with the inflated Pufferfish.  That’s tricky!!!
