We continued working on our Silly Town small group reading books today with a focus on the sight word “is.” We will finish the book this week and begin a new book on Monday titled, Pretty Blankets. This book focus on four sight words; has, this, on, and it. To give your child a head start, you can begin practicing these words during homework time in the evenings.
We began reading our big book, Silly Sally, this week during our shared reading time. We will continue this book through next week. The students made their own books during reading groups this week called, Silly Town. We will be finishing those by the end of next week. The focus sight word this week, continues to be “is.” I am so proud of all the students, they are working hard at home and at school on the sight words and it is paying off big time! They are recognizing the words more quickly every day. Way to go everyone!
After reading our reading group book, Zoo Animals, we created a new page for the book by adding our own text and illustration. We are all readers and writers!
We started our Shared Reading Activities on Monday in Pre-K! The first book we’re reading in Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See? We’re working on the parts of book (words and illustrations on each page), author, illustrator and title. We will be searching for our sight words and much more. We began reading Zoo Animals in Reading Groups this week and the sight word, is, was introduced on Monday. Keep up with the homework activities four times per week! This REALLY makes a difference in the growth and progress of your child. Keep up the good work.
We reread our book, Making Bubbles today and became the author to create a new sentence to add to the book. We were blowing bubbles outside at recess so decided to add ourselves to the book (WE ARE BLOWING BUBBLES.) We cut the sentence apart and took turns recognizing the words and putting the sentence back together. Nice work everyone!
We began reading Making Bubbles by Bruce Larkin on Monday in reading groups. We reviewed and continued to work on the sight word, the. Once your child masters the, a and I, add the words go and no to your at home practice.
We continued reading our book, I JUMP in reading groups this week. This book introduced us to the sight word the and I. We practiced using our “magic” reading finger while we pointed to the words that we read. By the end of the week we were able to identify the sight words we knew as well as use the first reading strategy we learned (use the picture to give us a clue about an unknown word). The students did a WONDERFUL job and I’m very proud of them. GREAT GREAT JOB KIDS!
We had our first reading groups in PreK class today. The children have gotten off to a GREAT start! I can’t wait to see them grow and develop their literacy skills over the next nine months!
