Counting, color matching, prewriting, fine motor and more!
Counting, color matching, prewriting, fine motor and more!
What a busy week for the Preschool Prep class! One of the many lessons they were able to do this week was called “Mitten Math”. By engaging in this activity, the students were able to work on their counting skills as well as their one to one correspondence.
In another activity, students were able to work on their prewriting skills. They did this by drawing letters and shapes into salt trays. They all had fun being creative and practicing what they have learned through this sensory experience!
Another activity that everyone really enjoyed was the winter letter hunt! The kids had to dig through white winter sensory materials to find a letter. They had to then identify the name and sound of that letter.
We have been working on developing our fine motor skills. These skills are very important for young children as they begin their journey in writing. We have been putting an emphasis on fine motor lately to ensure that each child is able to hold a pencil correctly, write their letters, cut, before they enter their preschool and k prep year.
We are working on the number ten this month, so we practiced hole punching ten holes on a card.
We practiced forming the first letter in our names with paint and Q-tips.
Growing our own bean seeds for our garden unit this month!
We used tongs to pick up seeds and buttons and place them in the separate compartments of an ice tray.
For Easter we worked on color sorting jelly beans into the correct colored easter egg.
We worked on our fine motor skills and used tongs to move pom poms into each egg in the carton.
The early 3’s have been working hard on making circles. We drove cars through shaving cream (snow) and had a blast going in circles! It was a fun (and messy) way to practice our pre-writing!
The early 3’s have been learning to use markers and crayons to make circles this month! To make it a little more fun, we covered the table with foil and let the children use markers to make their circles all over the foil. The children had a blast making the circles and seeing the effects of writing on the foil!
We have been talking about rectangles this month. We have been talking about how rectangles have four sides and are longer than squares. Today, we looked for rectangles in our city landscape pictures!
The Early 3’s took their work outside this week! We brought paper and crayons outside to see what happened when we colored with a crayon on the surface of a tree. The children were excited to discover the cool patterns they could make by rubbing their crayon across the paper sideways and holding it the regular way against the tree.
The Early 3’s put their detective caps on today when they had to look at the letter H and figure out what was missing! When they figured it out, they used crayons to finish the letter. Good work detectives!
We have been working very hard on our writing in Early 3’s! Today we wrote with our fingers…in the shaving cream! We worked on making horizontal and vertical lines. These activities lead to the ability to form letters and numbers. Next time you take your preschooler to the park, show them how to make lines in the sand!
We are working on vertical and horizontal lines in the early 3’s room so we raced our cars down horizontal and vertical racetracks! The children loved going forward and backward on the tracks with their cars. This pre-writing activity is a fun way to help your child learn to control their fine motor muscles since they have to keep the car on the narrow track.
