We have reached week 3 of our school year!! Yay!! Today the children listened to a read aloud called “All About You.” We talked about where we live, what we wear, who we live with, what we eat, etc. The children are currently learning the color red and the letter “R.” During group time, I had a bin with various items, and the children had to identify which items were red. During small groups, we painted rainbows (for the letter “R”) for our ABC book we will be working on throughout the year. They also painted a muffin tin and printed it on paper for the art show in March. The children worked on our numbers for the month (number recognition 1-3). They also practiced one-to-one correspondence and fine motor skills with pipe cleaners and colanders. The playground has a new feature that the children absolutely LOVE: a sandbox!! The Early 3’s class did so so soooo well today! I was very excited with how well the children sat at group time and listened. We practiced our line up procedure and quiet signal responses. During small group time, one group learned about our transportation center and how to clean up. Another small group learned about the restroom and how to wash hands. The other group worked on their fine motor skills with paper ripping. I taught them how to pinch the paper and pull to make it rip. We sang our ABC’s and our “We Like to Come to School” song. There is also a new routine we are working on with the children when they enter the classroom. They will be working on name recognition throughout the school year, so one of the ways to help them learn is by finding their name and matching it to the magnetic person with their face on it each day. I have been so impressed with how quickly our early 3’s class is picking up the routines and procedures for our classroom. Today, the children were very attentive during whole group time, and they interacted magnificently! During small group time they learned how to properly use the play house and the items in the house. They worked on one-to-one correspondence in the Early 3’s manipulative center. They also painted Labor Day fireworks with pipe cleaners, paint, and glitter. We are continuing to work on our snack time procedures and learning to wait until everyone is seated and the song has been sung before we eat our snack. At the end of the day I played the guitar, and we sang the ABC song a couple times to begin to prepare for the upcoming weeks and months of learning letters.

Your children have done so well this week, and I am excited for what this year has in store for us!!!

We had a great second day in the early 3’s class! We worked on lining up –and they are quickly learning how to do this! I’m so proud of them! We practiced listening for a “quiet signal” prompt and responding correctly. In small group time, one group of children painted on foil –a fun sensory art activity. Another group of children learned how to play at the kitchen center –knowing how to properly use the center will advance their dramatic play development. The other group learned how to use the learning activities in the Early 3’s center. One of the activities we focused on is a sorting colors and shapes activity.

I am excited to learn with your children and see what this year holds for us! 🙂

So excited about our first day of school!! The children enjoyed exploring all of our centers and familiarizing themselves with the room. We got to know each others’ names with a fun name activity. The dramatic play center, new train table, and kitchen were the “big hits” of the day! –Definitely a lot of fun and learning going on! During our small group time, the children learned how to use some of the items in the Early 3’s Center which included a letter/magnet/one-to-one correspondence/fine motor activity and a counting/number recognition activity. They also painted with rolling pins wrapped in bubble wrap. The children are learning the procedures and routines, and we are modeling the expectations that we have for them in this class. This is going to be an exciting school year!!

Check out all of the fun we had on our egg hunt!

To kick off their “things that fly” unit, the early 3’s read Waiting For Wings by Lois Ehlert. We sequenced the butterfly cycle and then made our own butterflies using scrapbook paper! We practiced our glue stick skills by gluing our own pieces of the butterfly to construction paper.

The Early 3’s began working with scissors last week! Boy were they excited for this one! We talked about scissor safety and the do’s and don’ts of scissors. We practiced putting one finger on top and two fingers on bottom and about how to keep our thumbs pointed to the sky! We began by cutting pieces of paper and for a little extra practice and fun we used play-doh scissors to practice cutting play-doh. We will continue to work with scissors at school as it is a tricky skill to pick up. Practice at home to help your early 3 build their fine motor muscles to help make the task easier for them!

We have been talking about rectangles this month. We have been talking about how rectangles have four sides and are longer than squares. Today, we looked for rectangles in our city landscape pictures!

We have been talking about igloos, icerbergs, cold weather, and the kinds of clothes you wear in the cold here in the early 3’s. Today we put on our winter gear to build an igloo out of blocks! The children used their fine motor muscles to put on their gear and their gross motor to build the igloos.
