We will be introduced to two new word families this week.-it, and -ot. Today we focused on the -it family as we buddied up and read our -it family books in pairs. The Paired Reading strategy encourages peer teaching and learning. Students are divided into pairs and take turns reading aloud to each other. Reading with a buddy encourages students to try reading materials that may be just above their normal reading level. Paired Reading can also be used to build oral skills so that reluctant readers can work toward reading more confidently in front of a small group. Because the students have been so successful this year with their reading progress, this is a strategy that we will be able to incorporate on a more regular basis during small groups.
We have been working on measurement this month during our math studies and in anticipation of some snow, the kids made their own measurement tool to use when it does!
We explored the property of heat during our science lab today. We made predictions about what would happen to both a marshmallow and a bar of ivory soap if we added heat. We used our classroom microwave to conduct our experiment and look at our results…WOW!
We put on our lab coats and safety goggles today as we hit the science lab! We made predictions about what might happen to the M&M’s when we placed them into the warm water. Then conducted our experiment to find out if our predictions were correct! Many predicted they would melt while others predicted they would grow bigger. After our experiment, we found out that the color dissolved off of the M&M, but the M’s on the candies peeled off and floated to top.
Science is so much fun!
