Playing outdoors allows our toddlers to learn about the world around them. Can sticks stand up in the sand? How does mud feel? Why do we slide down instead of up the slide? How do I make my truck go faster? How does the tree create cool shade from the sun? Why is the water in the water table cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon? Not only do children learn many of the basic and fundamentals about how the world works around them, they are more apt to remember what they learned because it was a concrete and personally meaningful experience!
Warm weather means more fun on the playground. Ms. Cally fills the outdoor sensory tub with all kinds of fun for exploring and discovering. This week she microwaved bars of ivory soap to make big fluffy clouds. Then the children had fun experimenting with different shape cutters and tools. It made our playground smell nice and clean too!
Here comes the cold! Coat season is in full swing and your preschooler is learning how to put theirs on all by themselves. “The Preschool Flip” is an easy way for your little one to gain some independence, confidence, and responsibility. Start with the hood or collar of coat at your toes open side up. Slip arms into arm holes and slowly flip the coat up over your head. Practice, practice, practice! We also learned how to hang up our belongings so nothing gets lost at the cubbies. Please label everything you send to school! Gross Motor Movement is so important at this age, we will be heading to the playground on days 32 degrees and above. Hats and mittens, please! 220 fingers is just too many to slip into all those little spots in gloves.
