Ordering objects, cards, pictures in order from smallest to biggest and biggest to smallest is a foundational math skill. Seriation is an important building block for other math concepts. This can be a very easy skill to practice at home. Let your little one put silverware, pots/pans, books, cups, boxes in order from smallest to biggest. Use questions to help guide them through the process. Which one looks a little bigger? What object do you think is next? Have fun with it! They did GREAT with this skill today!

The early 3’s have been talking a lot about gardens and the flowers you can find in them. Today, they practiced ordering flowers…by size! After taking a minute to explore the flowers through their senses, they put the flowers in order according to length, shortest to tallest! We talked about how many flowers/plants start out short and grow taller with water and sun.

We ordered a variety of objects by size during math groups…we ordered them both from smallest to largest and back again.  We also ordered them both horizontally and vertically.  We loved the towers the best!  Learning can be such fun.

We created our very own snowman suncatchers today to hang in our classroom windows to make it feel more like a winter wonderland!  We learned that Antarctica is covered in ice and snow, great for snowmen!  But, sadly we learned that no one lives there to build them except for some scientists who stay there for a short time to learn about Antarctica.
