Follow Along!
  • October Orange!

Orange discovery bins have been a big hit this month.  The toddlers practiced fine motor skills, counting and sorting while finding Halloween cats in the orange lentils.  We also painted hands orange to make a page for our color book.  A wall mural, orange playdough, and painting with orange have all been fun and engaging activities to celebrate the color orange.

  • 5 Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate

The month of October presents itself with many opportunities to explore pumpkins.  We opened a pumpkin and used our senses to feel, smell,  and observe the pumpkin.  The toddlers also did a 5 Little Pumpkins craft and acted out the fingerplay in front of the class!  We decorated pumpkins using washi tape and plan to bathe them next week!

  • Triangles have three sides!

We have counted the sides of a triangle many times in the toddler room in October!  We made triangles with popsicle sticks, created triangle owl art, played at the easel center with contact paper and triangles, and glued triangle collages.  Stay tuned for the shape of the month in November!

  • Some Very Busy Toddlers

We have jumped right in to our October literature with our reading of Eric Carle’s The Very Busy Spider last week! We had fun reading the story together, and making all of the different sounds of the animals that the Busy Spider met while spinning her web. The students all got a turn to touch the raised spiderweb on the pages of the book, which was a favorite part for most 🙂

Using puffy paint and a squeeze bottle, each student got to make their own raised “spiderwebs”!

We also have lego-eating monsters. Our lego-eating monsters are used to teach our toddlers to match the color of the lego, with the color of the monster. With feeding the monsters, our friends are learning how to sort colors, use fine motor skills, and take turns!

  • Happy Halloween!

Today for snack the toddlers created their very own “mummy pizza!”

First, they spooned on the pizza sauce.

Next, they added strips of string cheese.

Then we baked them for five to seven minutes at 400 degrees.

Finally, after adding eyes it was time to eat!
