  • Building Fine Motor Muscles

We have been working hard to continue to build our fine motor muscles to help us on our way to becoming strong writers!  Simple wrist exercises for kids can improve your child’s fine motor skills and have a positive effect on handwriting. Wrist strengthening activities are easy to do at home with children from preschool through early elementary.

Click on the picture below for website with a variety of simple activities to do at home.  No special supplies needed!

The exercises and activities are to improve your child’s wrist extension and wrist stability.

Wrist extension means that the wrist is bent slightly upwards, which leads to better control of the finger muscles.

  • Pre-Writing in Sand

We introduced letter formation through pre-writing lines in sand. Tracing in sand or various substances creates a sensory connection to help little ones remember letters and numbers. This is a fun and easy way to explore at home too!

  • Vertical Name Practice

Name recognition is a skill practiced daily in preschool. Today we strengthened our fine motor and wrist muscles while working on a vertical surface. The Smartboard makes name practice especially fun. Some fun ways to practice names around the house are writing in shaving cream, flour, dirt, sand, steam on the bathroom mirror, sugar or salt. Letter building is fun to do around the house as well. Help your preschooler create the letters of their name with dry or cooked noodles, beans, candy, or coins.
