This week the Toddlers are learning about the letter “I” during group time. To further the lesson, the boys and girls painted with colored ice cubes! It was a fun and messy new way to paint!
This month the Toddlers are learning about things that fly. Last week during group time we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert. During art, the children strengthened their fine motor skills by squeezing watercolor filled eyedroppers on paper towels. They enjoyed observing the colors mesh together and turn into new colors. The project was finished off with a clothespin with eyes. Out came a beautiful butterfly, just like the book!
This week during group time, the Toddlers enjoyed the book, Eating the Alphabet by Lois Ehlert. To go with the book the boys and girls explored vegetables during small group. They made vegetable prints by stamping broccoli, corn, carrots, and peppers on their paper. We were sure to wear our art smocks because the painting got a little messy!
This week the Toddlers are reviewing the letters of the month. Each child took a turn matching a letter on the magnetic wall.
This month the Toddlers have been going over the difference between hard and soft. Each day at group time, we look around the room for objects that are soft and objects that are hard. Today during small groups, the boys and girls explored pom poms, sand, pebbles, and macaroni noodles. Together we talked about which items were hard and which were soft.
The Toddlers learned about the letter P last week. The boys and girls made parrots out of the letter P, colored purple P’s at the easel, and played with pink playdoh. The children sang the letter P song during group time and went over their friends names.
The Toddlers have been reading “Pete the Cat: I Love My New Shoes” during group time. The books reviews colors as the cat walks around town. Also during group, the children have been playing a memory game using felt cats to work on cognitive development. The children are asked to close their eyes as one of the cats magically disappears. Then they must decide as a group which one is missing. The boys and girls are doing a great job using their memory and observing the changes.
Close your eyes tight! 🙂
This month we will be learning about the color pink. During group time, we have been reading the book, “Little Pink Book”, and searching around the room for objects that are pink. Â The children used their fine motor skills to paint pink flamingos during art center and hearts at the easel.
One of our favorite activities in the Early 3’s is “Magic Bag”. Magic Bag is a game where the children read their names and then get the reward of getting to feed the Magic Bag (who is always hungry for yummy names!) The 3’s love this game and are beginning to recognize and read each others names as well as their own!!!
