  • Phonemic Awareness…Lettercise!

Young children learn through moving!  Each day during group time, we Lettercise together to practice our ability to hear and identify letter sounds (phonemic awareness).  Lettercise is a song by Dr Jean.  Dr Jean creates a wide variety of songs that teach both literacy and math!  If you want to Lettercise at home, you can find her CD here.  If you would like to hear the song, click on the first photo below.  We don’t use the video that it is linked to, we just use the song.  Get up and Lettercise!

  • Yoga Relaxation: Balance Poses

The preschoolers have been exploring all kinds of ways to relax at the end of our busy school day. Allowing a little mind to calm down and unwind is an important skill. We read stories, talk about our day, stretch our bodies, meditate, or practice yoga poses. Yoga Relaxation is a wonderful way for children to experience movement with their bodies and connect with their peers. Look at the preschoolers practicing their balance poses!

    Namaste!

  • We have reached week 3 of our school year!! Yay!! Today the children listened to a read aloud called “All About You.” We talked about where we live, what we wear, who we live with, what we eat, etc. The children are currently learning the color red and the letter “R.” During group time, I had a bin with various items, and the children had to identify which items were red. During small groups, we painted rainbows (for the letter “R”) for our ABC book we will be working on throughout the year. They also painted a muffin tin and printed it on paper for the art show in March. The children worked on our numbers for the month (number recognition 1-3). They also practiced one-to-one correspondence and fine motor skills with pipe cleaners and colanders. The playground has a new feature that the children absolutely LOVE: a sandbox!! Check out all of the fun photos from our day!

(Muffin Tin Art: Art Show Piece)

    (“R” is for Rainbow)

  • We had a fantastic start to our third week of school! In the toddler room we are learning the color red and the letter “R.” We are learning the ABC song and practicing sitting at group time. The children had fun working on their art show pieces: painting muffin tins and printing them on paper. A new addition to our playground is a huge sandbox!!! The children LOVE playing in it!! Check out all of our fun photos from our day!! 🙂

  • I have been so impressed with how quickly our early 3’s class is picking up the routines and procedures for our classroom. Today, the children were very attentive during whole group time, and they interacted magnificently! During small group time they learned how to properly use the play house and the items in the house. They worked on one-to-one correspondence in the Early 3’s manipulative center. They also painted Labor Day fireworks with pipe cleaners, paint, and glitter. We are continuing to work on our snack time procedures and learning to wait until everyone is seated and the song has been sung before we eat our snack. At the end of the day I played the guitar, and we sang the ABC song a couple times to begin to prepare for the upcoming weeks and months of learning letters.

Your children have done so well this week, and I am excited for what this year has in store for us!!!

  • First Day of School: Early 3’s!!

So excited about our first day of school!! The children enjoyed exploring all of our centers and familiarizing themselves with the room. We got to know each others’ names with a fun name activity. The dramatic play center, new train table, and kitchen were the “big hits” of the day! –Definitely a lot of fun and learning going on! During our small group time, the children learned how to use some of the items in the Early 3’s Center which included a letter/magnet/one-to-one correspondence/fine motor activity and a counting/number recognition activity. They also painted with rolling pins wrapped in bubble wrap. The children are learning the procedures and routines, and we are modeling the expectations that we have for them in this class. This is going to be an exciting school year!!

  • Summer Camp in the Wild West!

This week the Toddlers are exploring the Wild West. We have lots of fun things planned as the week goes on! On Monday, we sang, “Shoo Fly Don’t Bother Me” at group time and did a fun (and messy) art project to go along with it. In the sensory tub, the boys and girls can search for gold! The children are making new friends and loving all of the new centers we have put out for this week.

  • First Week of Summer Camp!!

Today we started the first day of our SUMMER CAMP! Yay! The children were excited to see that our sandbox has new sand and toys. It was definitely a hit today! They also enjoyed playing at the water table! –Definitely an excellent way to cool off while having fun! Miss Kate introduced the children to our new friend: “Sunny the Summer Camp Dog!” He was a part of whole group read aloud time this morning. The children LOVE him!! We also had a blast painting bubble wrap and printing it on paper! At the easel, children were able to experiment with sticky paper and small pompoms. We enjoyed some tasty muffins for snack time. The children were delighted to sing along and dance with Miss Sarah as she played guitar during music/movement time. Overall, we had a great first day, and we are looking forward to more fun and excitement tomorrow!

  • Counting at Group Time!

This week during group we have been reading the book Fish Eyes. The children love interacting and counting the fish as Ms. Bree-anna turns each page. The boys and girls took turns placing numbers by the matching fish.
