  • Sponge Painting with Squares

We introduced our shape of the month this morning during small groups. The preschoolers counted the sides of a square and used square sponges to cover their square picture. We played ‘I Spy Squares’ and searched for squares all over our classroom. Play ‘I Spy Squares’ at home with your little one, see how many squares you can discover!

  • Letters in Our Name

The preschoolers explored the difference between the uppercase and lowercase letters in their name today. First, we practiced how to spell our name by glueing the letters in order. Then we pointed to the first letter of our name and discussed that this is the uppercase letter, we talked about how the first letter of a name is always uppercase. Next we ran our fingers across the rest of the letters in our name. We discussed that these letters are lowercase. We chose a color for our uppercase letter and a color for our lowercase letters. We strengthened our fine motor muscles and practiced our crayon grip while coloring. Have fun exploring the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters with your preschooler!

  • My Ocean

While focusing on developing our fine motor skills this week, we practiced ripping paper and using a glue stick to create our very own ocean! We talked about how we pinch the paper in our fingers and pull to rip it. Then on Friday we practiced holding our glue sticks and learning how to put glue on the pieces of paper and sticking it in our “ocean.” The skill of ripping paper is a great exercise  in gaining fine motor control, and we can always use more practice learning how to glue!

  • Hawaiian Starfish

While learning about the animals and habitat of Hawaii and the Pacific Ocean we watched a video of a starfish on the ocean floor. The preschoolers made their own starfish while strengthening their fine motor muscles. Any activity that requires tearing, scrunching, folding, or twisting of paper is wonderful for the muscles in preschoolers little hands and fun to do!

  • Lines! Lines! Lines!

This week we are practicing how to draw horizontal and vertical lines in Early 3’s! Today with Ms. Bree Anna we began our practicing by tracing different line shapes in order to understand what a line looks like. Drawing lines is not only a wonderful way to develop those fine motor skills, but it is a basic skill that is essential to learn for pre-writing.
