  • Welcome to Africa!

A new month means a new theme!  This month, the children will be traveling to Africa.  We have transformed our room into our very own savannah, along with offering new activities in each center.  Today, we took the time to get acquainted with what’s new in our room.

  • Jaguar Counting

The animal we focused on today was the jaguar.  Did you know that the jaguar is the largest of all of the cats in the rainforest?  These animals have so many spots, how could we ever count them?  Well, we did just that!  First, we put the spots in numerical order, which practiced our counting to 16 and number recognition skills.  Then, we glued the spots onto our jaguar.

  • Sweet 16

During the month of March, we have been working on the numbers 15 and 16.  With counting to 15 and 16, working on our number recognition and one-to-one correspondence, the children have been hard at work.  Today, Ms. Lori had the children do all of the above by writing the number 16, counting stickers and then sticking them, one by one, onto corresponding dots.

  • Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Did you wear your green today??  Our room was full of green, white and yellow as we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day.  Our day started off with a visit from a wee little leprechaun who left us not only a highly guarded pot ‘o gold, but some leprechaun dust, his shoes and hat!!  We never did find him, but we sure enjoyed a piece of his chocolate coins.  Here are some fun facts about St. Patrick’s Day:

-Leprechauns stem from Irish folktale.  In Ireland, they are not associated with St. Patrick, which makes leprechauns an Americanized symbol of St. Patrick’s Day.

    -St. Patrick is actually English.

-March 17 is the day of St. Patrick’s death, hence St. Patrick’s Day.

  • Help Me Grow Diaper Drive…Success!

Thank you everyone for over 250 packages of diapers, wipes, and creams.  We were able to help so many deserving families in our community.  We love to see the children put their lessons of compassion into practice.  Way to go everyone!

  • C is for Cachorro!

In Brazil, the national language is Portuguese.  This month we are focusing on the letter C, along with O and Q.  In portuguese, cachorro means dog.  Today, the children learned that C is for Cachorro.  They also counted how many spots are on the dog.  Learning language develops naturally as children interact with adults and their peers.  Experimenting with foreign language at a young age develops the “web” of a child’s brain even further.

  • On our first day of March, the children enjoyed learning about their new center activities.  Taking time to teach the boys and girls the correct way to do an activity ensures that they are getting the most out of their learning.  We also spent some time outside today working on our listening skills and following directions.  The children were delighted to be out in the warm sunshine!

  • New Month, New Centers

As we roll into March, it’s time to introduce new activities in our centers!  Today, the children learned how to use the activities in our math, literacy and art centers.  So many ways to practice our letters and numbers!

  • Valentine’s Patterning and Counting

Love is in the air this week…especially in the form of counting and patterning Hershey Kisses!  Using an ABABAB pattern the children helped create and extend our red-purple-red-purple pattern.  Next, we practiced counting numbers eight through fourteen by picking a number, then counting out the corresponding number of Hershey Kisses.
