  • Magnetic Exploration

Today Joey and Jessica were exploring with magnets!  They used their magnet wands to see how many magnets they could pick up at one time.  It was so exciting for them to watch as the magnets attached to each other in one line.  This was also a wonderful exercise for counting.  After attaching all of the magnets they possibly could, we took them off and counted them as we put them back in their special trays.  The individualized trays work wonderful for one-to-one correspondence when counting.

  • Pumpkin Seeds!

    IMG_1776
IMG_1777 We continued name practice today with our Pumpkin Seed Letters. The preschoolers Identified the first letter of their name and placed pumpkin seeds all around that letter. Our names provide so much exposure to those important letters of the alphabet and are such a great tool for teaching. We talk about the first letter of our name and how it is ALWAYS uppercase while the rest of the letters in our name are lowercase. These types of activities are not only great for letter recognition but they start our students down the road of becoming readers! Children are excited to be able to read their own names and feel very proud when doing so! What a great confidence builder, too!

  • 1, 2, 3…

The preschoolers continued their focus on the numbers 1, 2, and 3 today with Ms. Manda’s very popular sticker activity. The students identified each numeral as they covered them with small stickers (great for those ever growing fine motor skills). Then it was onto the tricky part; How many is the number 1? The number 2? And the number 3? The students were asked to place the correct amount of smiley face stickers next to the corresponding number. The kids loved this activity and were very proud of their finished product. It was a great way to show the written form of the numbers as well as the spatial form.

Sorting, numeral sequencing and spatial arrangement. Unbelievable what a single exercise can convey.
