We read the book Curious George makes Pancakes outside today. George was a great pancake maker and an excellent flipper! We used put our hand/eye coordination to work today to work on our own flipping skills!
We followed the characters, Iguana, Pot-bellied pig, turtle, and rooster through the book Cook-a-doodle-doo today as they baked Great Granny’s (The Little Red Hen) famous strawberry shortcake. Iguana wanted to measure the flour with a ruler instead of a measuring cup while pot-bellied pig waited to be the “taster” at the end. We then tried out the Granny’s recipe and boy was it delicious!
For our last day of cooking camp we made a delicious treat, candy apples! Our little chefs dipped their apple in caramel and then sprinkles to make a candy apple! It was too good to not eat, so we had them for snack! Then we made a second to take home. What a fun way to dress up apples!
Today for watermelon Wednesday, the boys and girls made cookies out of their watermelon! The children used cookie cutters to cut out a shape, then iced it with yogurt and added some sprinkles. Watermelon cookies are a great summer snack!
Today our little chefs made their own carrot patches. At group time we read Just Enough Carrots by Stuart Murphy. Then we scooped hummus into a cup, added some carrots, dropped it in a pot and created a carrot patch! The boys and girls all seem to love carrots and were excited to take their treats home. Enjoy!
We hit the kitchen one last time this week and created another simple snack…salsa. A nice, cool, healthy snack for a hot summer day, and don’t forget the blue corn chips! Did you know that blue corn chips have less starch and more protein than the white corn tortilla chips?
