In a fun preschool lesson this week, science and friendship collide! The kids learned that we could mix colors to create new ones! We tied this lesson in with this month’s character theme: friendship. Each child met a new friend as we conducted the experiment. We talked about how we are all beautiful on our own, but when we form new friendships, something beautiful comes out of it (aka the new color created!).
A review of the colors we have learned about this year led to a chart of our favorite colors. We then had a yummy review of colors and sorting using Fruit Loops. After sorting the cereal by color – the reward was a colorful snack!
A review of shapes led to a shape collage. We will laminate these for the toddlers to take home over the summer. Keep in the car or take to restaurants to review shapes while waiting for a table.
During small groups, we matched up foam numbers to the outline. Physically holding the shape of the number sometimes helps with recognition in the future. We also practiced counting every time we placed a number on the line.
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, we are getting into the holiday spirit!
We started by making open ended creations using red and green gum drops and tooth picks!
We went on a letter hunt in pretend snow! (Even though it happened to be 60 degrees outside at the end of November!)
We painted with star shaped cookie cutters! Our December shape is the star, and color is red.
The students were able to make homemade red, peppermint play-doh! We will use this in class activities throughout December.
Counting, color matching, prewriting, fine motor and more!
The Preschool Prep class is working hard and having fun learning about letters, shapes, colors, numbers and more!
Color recognition is a skill that uses the cognitive function, which is what our brains use to think, reason, and remember. Through cognitive reasoning, children link visual clues, such as colors, to the word it corresponds to, which is recalled from the use of their cognitive function.
The toddlers have been learning all about the color green this month! We incorporated the color green into lots of activities this week, for them to have the continual to exposure to one color, in which they can link to the word, “green”. They went on a hunt for the color green, used green markers, crayons, chalk, and paint, to create different artwork, and used green circles and triangles to sort shapes! Our friends sure made green week fun!
The boys and girls had a blast fishing with Ms. Laurel today! This was such a fun and interactive way for the children to review their colors and shapes. The boys and girls were given a chance to go fishing, then they told the other children what color their fish was and what shape it had on it. They all did a great job recognizing their shapes and colors!
