Here are some of our Early 3’s children working hard at their scissor skills! They are cutting their paper into little pieces and sorting the scraps by color. They are really coming a long way with their scissors!

The kids had a wonderful time with play dough this morning! They were using their creative minds to turn their play dough into many different things. Morgan turned his play dough into a pair of glasses and Audrey made hers into a hat!
This week we have added rice and colorful jewels to our sensory table! The kids have loved feeling the texture of the rice and sorting through it to find the shiny and colorful jewels! We had quite a crowd at the sensory table today scooping and dumping the rice over and over again! The rice was used for many different things today. Some kids were “building houses” while others were “cooking different foods.” The jewels were also a big hit for finding “treasure” and talking about the different colors.
We made Pumpkin Pie in a bag today! The children helped to measure and pour all of the ingredients into our special plastic bag. The best part was that after we zipped up the bag, everyone had a turn to mush and mix everything together with their hands! It was so exciting for them to see what it felt like as they were mixing the cold pumpkin pudding. To make the crust of the pie, the kids also crushed up graham crackers on the table.
The colorful clips and clothespins hanging around the preschool classroom might seem odd at first glance but the system and reasoning behind them has added a whole new sense of responsibility and indenpendence in the students. At each of our many Centers there is a Center Sign along with its matching, brightly colored clips. Each of these centers offers a wide variety of ever changing themed choices ranging from Dramatic Play and ABC Centers to Bookmaking and Block Centers. During our Free Choice time you can witness the students participating in any number of activities; whether they are playing a game individually or taking turns with a friend the centers are always a place for FUN as well as academic growth and development.
You may have heard a teacher asking the question, “Do you have a clip on your clothes?” once or twice. Placing a clip on our clothes is chosing to play at a center and while at that center it is the preschooler’s responsibility to play a game or work together on an activity with friends. When a child is finished visiting a center it is their job to make sure they have put their tools and toys away so that the next child to chose that center may come play. They put the clip back on the Center Sign and move onto their next center of choice.
The children have done a fantastic job picking up the new ways to enjoy and take care of our classroom. Great work, preschoolers!
The year is upon us and we can’t wait. The rooms are set and the schedule is full. The preschool will be in full swing Tuesday, September 8th. We have already had a number of students drop by to try and get a sneak peak of their classroom this year. You will be amazed at what we have planned.
