  • The Smell of Hot Chocolate…

Today the kids finger painted using brown finger paint to make hot chocolate in their mugs!  The special thing about this finger paint was that it smelled like real hot chocolate!  After the “hot chocolate” dried, the kids got to top off their mugs with some marshmallows.  The final step was to write their names on their mugs with the help of Ms. Rachel=) hot chocolate 038 hot chocolate 037

    Nice and Icy Winter Fun

Looking for some winter day fun over the holiday vacation?  Once the first snow hits, this will be a great snowy day activity.

What is it? An art project involving icicles and frozen blocks of colored ice

What will I need? Food coloring, water, ice trays, molds, muffin tins and other containers

You can’t have as much snow as we do and not have an abundance of icicles. We decided to incorporate some of ours into a sculpture, joining them to ice blocks made by freezing colored water in ice-cube trays, Jell-O molds and yogurt containers. We placed all the materials on an outdoor table, and everyone took turns building totem poles, monsters and free-form sculptures, gluing the blocks of ice with a little dribble of water (it quickly froze).

Helpful Hint: For consistency of hardness, consider making your colored blocks in the freezer rather than outdoors.

  • Holiday Lights

Today all of the children made sparkling lights on their houses.  They used glue, glitter, and small circles to make their lights shine bright!  wrapping paper 009

  • Santa’s Little Elves

The children have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on their special holiday gifts for their families!  Just a sneak peek of our little elves at work for all of you.  Homemade gifts from our little ones are a true gift from the heart.  They can’t wait to bring them home!

  • N is for Noodle

Today we had fun making the letter N using Noodles!  This was a great way to practice letter recognition as the kids stuck noodles onto the glue to form the letter N!  As we did this fun project, we talked about how Noodle start with the letter N.

  • 2009 Art Show

Our annual art has come and gone, but here are some pics to enjoy.  We really appreciate everyone joining us to celebrate all of the wonderful artwork the children had displayed.  They worked so hard and we LOVED seeing the kids take center state for the night!  We thank Ms. Penny for all of her hard work for the show AND with the children!

balloon dipping and the letter "Bb"

Thursday morning we used balloons for an art project to reinforce our letter of the week!  The kids were able to dip balloons into purple and yellow paint to make balloon prints on their papers!  As they pushed the balloon onto the paper we made the letter B sound.
