  • Getting back into the swing of things means reviewing old routines and practicing procedures.  For our small groups, the boys and girls learned new games and activities that are available to them in our centers.  Teaching them how the activities and games work ensures that the children are playing the game/activity the correctly, ultimately gaining the educational purpose it is designed for.  A new month means new centers, which means new ways to learn!

  • Dream Snow

Today we read Dream Snow by Eric Carle again. The children were very excited that they remembered the name of the Author.

We discussed The Dream Snow Christmas Tree.

And then we made our own Christmas Tree.

  • Writing Activity

Pencils and crayons are not the only materials we use for pre-writing skills. The children were given M&Ms to work on fine motor skills by outlining the first letter of their name.

  • Gobble! Gobble!

What is on your Thanksgiving plate?  Mr. Turkey!  Today, Ms. Lori worked on fine motor with the boys and girls as each child painted his/her own turkey.  Using water color paint, the children did an excellent job of dictating where the paint should go with a very tiny brush.  They made quite the array of Thanksgiving masterpieces!

  • The letter H is one of the easier letters to write.  Writing it in crayon, pencil and marker is excellent practice.  Writing it in paint makes it a memorable experience.  Today, Ms. Lori showed the children how to create a capital H and a lowercase h using art dot painters.  The children caught on quickly and enjoyed using these special art utensils!

  • Art Project

    CIMG4441

A good art project teaches a child that his creativity is limited only by his own imagination.

The children have made a plain brown turkey into a beautiful turkey with lots of feathers!

It takes a lot of small-muscle control in order to rub on the glue and stick on the feathers!!

  • Corn Isn’t Just For Eating!

Today, the children got in touch with their creative sides using a cob of corn to roll out some art!  Using different textures sparked curiosity and interest.  The children had the opportunity to explore the corn a little more in our sensory tub.  The corn can be manipulated and plucked off of the cob to follow up this creative art activity.  The United States is, by far, the largest corn producer in the world.  Here’s to home grown food made in the USA!
