  • Forward and Backwards!

Today the toddlers worked on the concept of front/back and forward/backward. We read the story “Freight Train” by Donald Crews. While listening to the story, the boys and girls decided which was the front and back of the train. They did a great job identifying all of the colors of the train cars. After the story, the children made their own train and practiced walking forward and backward. They did a great job using gentle hands and following directions!

  • Can you find the match?

Today the Toddlers worked on the cognitive development skill of matching. Matching is the ability to perceive that two items are identical. It hones in the concept of sameness and differences. During group time we read the book “Animal Babies on the Farm”. The boys and girls did a great job matching the animals based on the sound the animal makes! Next we dug through the sensory tub and tried to find matching mom and baby farm animals. Look around your house and see if your child can find things that match!

  • Let’s explore our new room!

The Toddler room has be transformed into a farmer’s paradise. The play house is now a big red barn, there is a farmers market full of fruits and veggies, and tractors galore at the transportation center. The boys and girls have had a field day exploring with farm animals in the sensory tub full of chicken feed!

  • IN and OUT…

One of our objectives in the Toddler room this month is to go over the concept and vocabulary “in and out”. The boys and girls practice this everyday. Whether it be playing in and out of the play house, putting objects in or out of the sensory table, or going in and out of the classroom… the children are putting the words in to motion each day! Our friends had a great time putting the balls “in” and “out” of the bucket.

  • What is round?

In the Toddler room, the children have been going over the shape of the month… a Circle! During group time, the boys and girls have been looking around the room for circles. Today, Ms. Bree-Anna read the book “What is Round?”. It highlights objects in everyday life that are the shape of a circle. For example a nickel or a balloon! The children also used their fine motor skills to paint a circle yellow. Go on a scavenger hunt around your house and look for all of the round objects!

  • Rain or Shine… We still had a great time!

Despite the dreary rainy day yesterday, the Toddler room was still buzzing with fun and excitement! The children had a blast exploring at the sand/water table. They used their fine motor skills to dig deep to find treasures underneath the styrofoam peanuts. The also socialized and practiced sharing, as they took turns using the table. The boys and girls also had a blast practicing their gross motor skills to jump and skip on bubble wrap. The popping sounds caused lots of giggles in our room!

  • Welcome to the Toddler Room!

We had a great first week of school in the Toddler Room! We were so excited to explore all of the fun new toys and centers throughout the room. The boys and girls spent part of  their day practicing sitting for group time and listening to a story! They loved the book 10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle. The children enjoyed pushing the “quack” button at the end of the story! The Toddlers had a great start to the week and are already transitioning smoothly into their new environment!

  • Art Prints

    White_Rabbit's_Color_Book

Today we read White Rabbit’s Color Book by  Alan Baker. The children helped tell the story by pointing out each color and then they told us their favorite color! Our little artists got to work by rubbing paint on a tray then pressing a piece of white paper on top. The end result is a beautiful color mixing art print!
