The Toddlers have been strengthening their fine motor skills. The boys and girls used clothespins to move pom poms into colored cups. The children worked on color recognition and sorting… they did a great job!
Gross motor skills are movements that help children develop large muscle control in arms, legs and the entire body. As a toddler, it is important that your child keep exercising these muscles to enable her to run, jump, throw, climb, etc. Due to the cold and wet weather, we have been working on these movements inside. We practiced tossing balls into a bucket, jumping from circle to circle, and building with blocks.
The Toddlers have been talking about all things winter this month. During group time, we have been going over clothing that keeps you warm when it’s cold outside. During art, the boys and girls took turns decorating mittens with rectangles (our shape of the month). We went over shape and color recognition as they used fine motor skills to make their art.
One of our learning objectives this month is the concept of top, middle, and bottom. We decided to build a felt snowman to go over this objective. The children enjoy building the snowman by adding parts of his body, adding a face, and finishing off their creation with a scarf and hat! The boys and girls worked as a team and did a great job taking turns.
The Toddlers are learning about winter this month. The boys and girls explored the “iceberg” with penguins, sea lions, and polar bears. The ice was cold to touch, but they loved to watch it melt!
The Toddler classroom has turned into a Winter Wonderland. There is “snow” and diggers in the sensory tub, lots of fun new manipulatives, and arctic animals in the block center. The boys and girls enjoyed all of the new activities around the room!
Today the Toddlers had so much fun with Ms.Joanie during music! Each child was given a chance to play the rainbow colored bells. They did a great job waiting for their turn. We talked about how we use our ears to hear instruments and songs.
We are focusing on stars this month in the Toddler room. We practice singing, “Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star”, during group and music time! Today the children used star shaped cookie cutters to paint blue and pink stars. They also used star shapes to mold play doh. The boys and girls used their fine motor skills to grab the cookie cutters and move them up and down!
