Roll the die, identify the number, count out that many poms into your cup. The first person to fill their cup wins!
(Obj: Number Recognition, one to one correspondence, counting and fine motor development)
The first step to reading readiness is being able to understanding that there is a relationship between letters and sounds through written language. Children who cannot hear and work with the phonemes of spoken words will have a difficult time learning how to relate these phonemes to letters when they see them in written words. Before reading groups begin, our K Prep students are working hard (and playing hard) to connect each letter with the sound it makes as well as identifying the first sound in a spoken word. How do we learn this important skill in K Prep? Playful learning!
Welcome to the Toddler Room! We are so excited to be starting another school year with our new toddler friends, and some familiar faces as well! We are already learning so much about each of your children, and we cannot wait to see them thrive in our classroom this year.
At orientation week, we wanted our friends to get to know their new classroom, and the environment in which they’ll be spending their days. They got to explore some of our centers and all of the different toys and activities we have for them to play with around the room!
Recess time is always full of smiles and giggles! Our friends had fun with their own bubbles, the sandbox, toys, and our big slides!
We also had some mama and baby animals to wash, some play-dough for them to explore, and they were able to do some free art using stickers and chalk!
We gave them a sneak peak at what our group times will look like, reading a book called, “Little Bea” by Daniel Roode, and doing a finger play activity with bees.
Our song we sang went like this:
“Here is the beehive. Where are the bees?
Hidden away where nobody sees!
Watch and you’ll see them come out of the hive…
One, two, three, four, five!”
It was such a great first week, and we look forward to getting into our routine as the weeks go on! Thank you for sharing your sweet kiddos with us! 🙂
What a great first week of school at Creative Tots!! In the PM Preschool and Preschool Prep classes, we had an ice cream themed week inspired by the book “Should I Share My Ice Cream?” By Mo Willems. The students learned about sharing, while meeting new friends and enjoying some delicious ice cream! What a great start to the year with an even better group of kids!
We started the afternoon with ice cream sensory tubs!
We found our own name tags and made necklaces out of them!
We had our ice cream snack outside in the sun!
We practiced sharing our own ice cream with friends!
Then we had a dance party!
Our question of the day was a tough one…choosing between chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream.
The K Prep class has been busy exploring their new classroom! So many new things to see and do for our new year. We have been working hard the past two days understanding the difference between letters and words, building words and taking them apart (segmenting). These activities were done using student’s names so we can’t post those activities on the blog, but you can view the children hard at work on these activities on our ClassDojo stories. Looking forward to a wonderful year with these sweet K Preppers.
We celebrated the last week of preschool with Beach Day and Awards Day!! We had an amazing year with your little ones and we hope you all have a great summer!
We had such a fun couple of months, with Spring activities such as, gardening, and learning about bugs and insects that live in the garden! Below you can see some of the April and May activities we did.
Matching colors:
Finding the bunny tail to match the color of the bunny!
Matching the jelly bean to the color on the oval!
Counting Flowers:
For this game, our friends rolled a die, and the number they got, that’s how many flowers they “planted” in their pots!
Name building: Writing their names with flowers!
Purple Party!:
Learning about the color purple, we found a bunch of purple items around our classroom, and then had a PURPLE snack–grape jelly fold-overs!
They got to spread the jelly on their bread 🙂
This school year has FLOWN by, and we have had so much fun watching our toddlers grow, learn, and play. Thank you for sharing the joy of your children with us! Happy Summer!!!
Acting out the butterfly life cycle!
