  • Bug Week

This week was “bug week”! Each day the students learned about a different bug. All of the activities and snacks for the day revolved around that specific bug!  Check out these thematic lessons below!

    Measuring with gummy worms

At group time, I demonstrated how a bee goes from flower to flower drinking their nectar and collecting pollen to bring back to the bee hive.

I then had the kids hold out their hands to act as flowers.

  • Earth Day 2018

In celebration of Earth Day (April 22) our toddler class created the”Earth” using glue water and tissue paper.  We discussed that the blue stood for the ocean and the green for the land.  We talked about many of the different things that live on the Earth.

  • X is for Xylophone

We have focused on the letter “X” this week.  Our class learned to make an X with our arms and then our pointer fingers.  We watched a video about the letter X and talked about the Xylophone.  The toddlers got to play the xylophone and make one to take home.  The toddler band played along to Itsy Bitsy Spider and the ABC song.  Our letter study this week was “x”trodinary!

  • Insect Adventures in Preschool

Spring has arrived, and we have started learning about bugs and plant life! We read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and retold the story with pictures cards.  We then acted out the butterfly life cycle!

Butterfly Life Cycle Part 1: The mama butterfly lays her egg on a leaf.

Butterfly Life Cycle Part 2: A caterpillar emerges from the egg and is out searching for food.

Butterfly Life Cycle Part 3: The caterpillar wraps itself in a cocoon or chrysalis.

Butterfly Life Cycle Part 4: After a couple weeks, the caterpillar breaks from the cocoon and….

    …turns into a beautiful butterfly!

  • It’s Easter Time!

We have been having fun with spring activities and talking all about bunnies, eggs, bugs, and flowers, even if we had to pretend it was nice and warm outside!  We sponge painted some Easter eggs, made some cut spring chicks hatching from their eggs and even counted spring flowers into eggs for others to find and count!

  • St. Patrick’s Day and Spring Bunnies

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations start out with a sensory bin of water beads, gold coins, and scoops.

We created leprechaun beards by painting with a fork.

We heard the leprechaun was running around Creative Tots.   The toddler class traveled to the studio to look for him and found gold coins!  We practiced finding and counting treasure.

We continued with our study of green by creating a “green tent” for our color book.

Moving into spring with a sensory bin filled with eggs, butterflies, bunnies, and flowers.  Some children practiced scooping while others sorted by color or type.  The older children began to make patterns (a pre-literacy and math skill).

    Matching Eggs…

Matching jelly beans.  Practice with one to one correspondence and color matching.  Also, an exercise in patience.  We had to match them all before we got to eat one as a treat.

Some fine motor skills are practiced when creating washi tape eggs.

Chalk eggs for our new easel.

    Gross motor practice….Feed the bunny.

    Painting feet for footprint bunnies.

  • Shamrocks and Rainbows!

March has been all about rainbows, leprechauns, pots of gold, and shamrocks!  We made fun snacks, created fun art projects and even mixed up some scientific luck potions!

  • T is for Teddy Bear

We had a fun day at school while learning about letter T!  Students got to bring their teddy bears to school and they got to join in on our fun activities!  They played with us in centers, listened to story, and got to join in our dancing!  We even had them join us for small groups where we worked on writing the letter T, sorting and graphing our gummy bear snack and worked on fine motor skills while we laced our teddy bear cards!  It was a fun special day in preschool!

  • March fun in PM Preschool!
