  • Special Days in the Toddler Room

This year we opted to recognize each child on their “special day”.  Many of these days landed close to their birthday – others were in the middle of the year just to celebrate each child.  An All About Me sheet was filled out and read to the class while the special day child sat in Ms. Kristen’s chair.  We were often able to read a favorite book or sing a favorite song according to the sheet.  Some of the children shared their favorite treat with our class.

  • Spring: Oval Eggs, Bunnies, and Garden

The toddlers shape study this month is the oval.  We have done lots of oval egg crafts and activities this month.  We have decorated an egg with washi tape, done an egg jelly bean match, and then of course an egg hunt!

Bunnies hop into our spring curriculum as well.  A ride on the big slide is fun for all!

Our discovery bins, sensory bin, and home living center focused on the garden and its bounty.  The bbq grill and veggies made for fun pretend “grill outs”.

    Fine motor skills:  lacing flowers!

Working on one more page of our color book.  We are putting the pages together for an end of year keepsake.

  • K Prep April Math Study

Hands-on activities in math are vital for young learners. Using hands-on activities in math helps children to take an active part in their learning. Using hands-on lessons in our K prep classroom allows our students to use a variety of senses which encompasses all different types of learning styles (and makes learning fun!!) Creating an environment where children get to explore and master skills is so vital. Introducing addition and subtraction into our classroom allows the kids to “play” with the concept and hear the vocabulary they will hear in a more formal way in Kindergarten and 1st grade building an early foundation for them to build on through the year.

  • Spring has Sprung!!!!

Spring is in the air in morning preschool! It is a wonderful season to see all of the friendships that have blossomed throughout the school year!

  • The Great Chain Race: A STEM Challenge in K Prep

Students love STEM challenges! The K Prep Enrichment class accepted the challenge to create the longest paper chain using 1 sheet of construction paper.  A variety of strategies emerged as each student came up with a plan to make the longest paper chain. Some students tried small rings, long rings,  and some even tried different types of rings to construct their chain. Thomas was our winner of the longest paper chain, his strategy was to create a chain with the skinniest pieces of paper he could cut.  Way to go Thomas!

  • Summer is just around the corner!

Everyone loves a playdate, but the kids want to have them more than parents like to host them. Let us play host this summer . . . that means no mess, no noise, no cleanup and no negotiations about who gets to come over. We have decided that summertime at Creative Tots should be more about what the kids want. The kids want to play.  The kids want to see their friends. The kids have spoken and we have listened. They think that anything to do with “camp” might just be a little too much like school. Let your kids explore they way they are built to explore . . . through playing in the summertime with their friends.

  • Somewhere Over The Rainbow

From rainbows to pot’s of gold, the PM preschool class fully embraced the St. Patrick’s Day theme this past week!

We made our own rainbow snacks!

We went on a gold hunt and matched uppercase/ lowercase letters!

We participated in a letter identification and hand strength activity by feeding our “tennis ball people” gold coins and naming the letters on each coin. We love to incorporate multiple objectives into one lesson!

Another multiple objective lesson: counting and fine motor!

We played “roll, count and graph” using rainbow jelly beans!

    S is for skittles!
