We had a blast celebrating Halloween yesterday! We played Jack-O-Lantern Keep It Up, Spider Toss, made play dough monsters ate a yummy snack!
We have been exploring our senses in preschool prep! This lesson was specifically for our sense of smell. The students were able to smell a variety of scents. They had to do their best to guess what it could be before the answer was revealed!
What a fun literacy day we had with our “Big Pumpkin” book!
First, we read the story and reenacted it using picture cards. We then were able to open up a real pumpkin and explore what was inside. Following the pumpkin exploration, we did a pumpkin art project and had a pumpkin snack!
To kick off our science study on the Pond Habitat, we started learning about the duck this week! We also built it into our alphabet study as we learned about the letter D.
For our science study, we learned that ducks have a special oil gland in their skin that keeps their feathers dry! We got to explore this by putting a little oil on our ducks and spraying them with water. We saw the water bead up as the oil prevented the duck being soaked by water.
We practiced counting by counting 5 ducks and sang the 5 Little Ducks song!
We explored some sensory play in our pond buckets which was a definite class favorite!
And to work our fine motor skills we had a duck race!
This week was all about reviewing the first 3 letters we have learned! We got to review in some really fun ways!
We read the story Perfect Square, a story about a square that got ripped and torn and turned into something new and beautiful. And then… we made our own creation with our own perfect squares!
It started out as a perfect square until I tore it and then it became an…
ELEPHANT!
and a FENCE!
One of our favorite book characters, Pete the Cat, was the star of our preschool day last week! We started by reading the story and completing a pre-writing activity to help Pete step into the different piles of fruit and mud! We also made up our own Pete the Cat scenarios. The kids were able to retell the story outside by getting a little bit messy! The shoes came off and the kids stepped in red paint (representing strawberries), blue paint, (representing blueberries), brown paint (representing mud), and finally the bucket of water to clean off! We ended our day with a snack of strawberries, blueberries, chocolate pudding and water to represent each thing Pete stepped in. What a fun day!
It was our last week in our Summer Play Date Experience and we had a blast!
We played balloon tennis, had a wind blown tunnel fort, played outside, and so many other fun activities including this awesome art project!
We had a lemonade stand and everyone got to have lemonade with their snack one day!
We played with rainbow bubble socks!
We played with water on Water Wednesday!
One of the days, it ended up being very rainy so we brought our chalk play experience inside!
We had a special visit from Cool Critters and we had some very brave kids get up close and personal with some very cool critters!
And to end our week, we had a party to celebrate the end of summer!
