  • I is for Ice Cream!

For letter “Ii” week, we dedicated a whole day to ice cream related activities! We built our name with scoops of ice cream, did an ice cream themed uppercase/lowercase letter matching activity, counted ice cream scoops (pom poms) onto numbered cones, ate a neapolitan ice cream snack and voted on which flavor we liked best!

  • Learning About the Letters Gg, Hh

The morning preschool is continuing to learn about all the letters in the alphabet. We worked on the letter Gg last week, and the letter Hh this week. So many hands on activities and so much fun!

  • October Activities!

The Toddler + Preschool Prep class has been hard at work this October! We have been using our Halloween theme as focus for some of our small group activities.

In one group, we fed different colored “Lego Monsters” that only eat Legos that match the color of their faces.

We also used a “spiderweb” to match shapes. They got to pick a shape and then stick it to the sticky spiderweb onto the shape it matched!

We are always trying to work in fine motor practice any chance we can get! Routine practice of using the thumb and finger grasp will help develop and refine their fine motor skills. Our students did a great job of stacking spider rings onto orange straws 🙂

  • Firetruck

What an exciting day! We had a visit from the Madeira/Indian Hill fire department while learning about the letter Ff. During their visit, we were able to get an up close look at their fire truck, as well as learn about fire safety and the importance of all the tools and equipment that firefighters use.

  • Letter Ee

The morning preschool class learned all about the letter Ee last week. We read quite a few Elmer the Elephant books, and even voted on our favorite. In addition, we always practice letter formation as well as letter sound each week.

  • Learning the Alphabet

The morning preschool has been busy learning the letters of the alphabet. Each week we focus on one letter, and integrate lots of creative activities and children’s literature to help us learn.

  • Bug Week

This week was “bug week”! Each day the students learned about a different bug. All of the activities and snacks for the day revolved around that specific bug!  Check out these thematic lessons below!

    Measuring with gummy worms

At group time, I demonstrated how a bee goes from flower to flower drinking their nectar and collecting pollen to bring back to the bee hive.

I then had the kids hold out their hands to act as flowers.

  • R is for Red Eyed Tree Frog

This week we learned all about the letter R.  We did R is for rainbows and robots and even rockets.  On Friday, we “traveled” to the Rainforest (Hey, another R) and learned about the Red Eyed Tree Frog.

He is a very small frog that lives in the trees and is a bright green with blue and yellow striped sides, orange feet, and bright red eyes!  We read a story about the frog and his habitat and then practiced using real life colors to color our own Red Eyed Tree Frog to take home!

  • Numbers & Counting in Preschool!

We have been working hard building our number concepts and recognition.  We have been learning to touch the item we are counting as we say a number and that we can only say 1 number as we touch it.  We use all sorts of things in school to count and blocks and plastic hearts have been a go to the last few weeks!

  • Winter Months in Preschool!

We have stayed busy in the PM Preschool room this winter! From acting out winter literature, to learning about arctic animals… the kids are having a blast and of course, learning a lot!

    Arctic animal bingo!

We focused in on the penguin for our science day! The kids learned that penguins have a layer of blubber to keep them warm. To help them understand this concept, we did an experiment to show the kids what blubber feels like for the penguins! We had two ice cold bowls of water. One bowl had a bag of coconut oil in it, to act as the blubber. They put one hand in each bowl and decided that the bowl with pretend blubber kept them warmer!

We then put a block between our legs so we could waddle like penguins!

We counted goldfish into the penguins belly’s!
