We are so excited to welcome everyone to a new school year at Creative Tots. The teachers have been working hard to get their classrooms ready for your children and can’t wait to get started. We’re looking forward to a year of new discoveries, new friendships, and new memories. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for all the important all school events throughout the year. They are wonderful experiences for the whole family and will be remembered for years to come. Welcome Back!
The time has come. The school year is once again upon us and all of us are ready (including the kids). As we do each year, we will be kicking off with our annual Back to School Carnival. Miss Penny, Miss Joanie and all the regular favorites will be on hand for art and song while the snow cones and popcorn abound. This year is going to be phenomenal. We are excited that you were able to join us and look forward to kicking things off right. Come on out to 7803 Laurel Avenue from 3:30-5:30pm and bring your camera. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to take a picture of the four-year-old face-painted spider-man, clutching half a cherry snow cone with a mouth full of laffy taffy attempting a spin-art masterpeice while dancing to Miss Joanie’s potty song and stuffing his pockets full of popcorn . . . because he may turn out to be yours. Have Fun!
This Friday, we say “Thank You” to all the wonderful moms in the Creative Tots Family. Jean-François will be on hand serving his “Gaufre de Liège” authentic Belgian waffle for all to enjoy! Don’t miss this! This year we are celebrating Creative Tots Mothers with a unique treat brought all the way from Belgium. Originating from the city of Liège, these waffles are immensely popular throughout all of Europe and is is one of few products prepared to be eaten “on the go”. It is typically served in a paper wrapping and eaten with the hands…no plate or fork required. The dough of the Liège waffle is sweeter and denser than “Belgian waffles” as we know them in the U.S. It is made from thick dough and coarse Belgian beet sugar. A specialized cast iron press caramelizes the sugar on the outside, giving it a delightful sweetness. Happy Mothers Day!
Join us this Friday, Febuary 12th for our annual celebration of Valentine’s Day with Creative Tots Special Person’s night. Each preschooler is encouraged to invite one person that is very special to them to help celebrate this special day. We will make a craft, share some fun together with friends and make a valentines day card. The kids are always excited to see the chocolate fountain make an appearance and quickly realize that even the best snacks taste better covered in cocoa.
Join us Thursday and Friday of this week (January 7th & 8th) as well as Monday of next week (January 11th) for preschool open house. It is an opportunity for those families with children in the Toddler and Early 3’s programs to visit the preschool throughout the school day. Talk with the teachers and observe the classroom in action. We want the families at Tots to have the first opportunity to continue their children through preschool with us. The open house is designed to allow current Tots families to interact with the live preschool classroom. Rather than an early year evening meet and greet, it is our opinion that observing and following the teachers as they are instructing is critical to gain a working knowledge of what your children have to gain from continuing through our preschool. Our preschool is committed to providing the finest education in an environment that teaches confidence, builds connections and encourages growth. This event has been a great success in the past and we hope you can join us!
Dancing Moon and Running Deer came to visit us today to teach us all about the Southwest Native Americans. We had the opportunity to pop the dry corn kernals off the cob and grind them on a matate. A matate is the large stone on which the grain is placed. A mano is a smaller stone used to grind corn or other grains. It is rolled over the matate to break down the grains into a powder. The powder is then used to cook many different things with. We talked about all the different uses the native americans had for corn then we husked our own piece of cooked corn and enjoyed it as a snack.
Running Deer showed us all of the different types of tools and weapons that were used to hunt and provide food for the native american families. We also got to see and feel a real deer fur and antlers along with a fox fur and skunk fur! We explored and dressed up in native american jewelry and clothing and had a chance to make our very own piece of jewelry. We learned that native americans would have used many different things to make their jewelry including shells, feathers, animal claws other things they would find in the area where they lived.
We learned that native americans did not have books like we do, they had “storytellers,” or people in their tribe that told stories to the young children. These stories always had a lesson that the children could learn. Dancing moon told us the story about “How Chipmunk Got His Stripes.” It was an exciting story that taught us that we should not tease others or to brag about ourselves. We will be reading other Native American Folk tales later in the week, including How Jackrabbit Got His Long Ears and Kissing Coyotes. The preK children got to listen to a story on tape about another native american legend…The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush.
Friday, November 13th 5 – 6:30pm. The Creative Tots Annual Art Show returns this year as out little artists show their own interpretations of famous works by Monet, Paul Klee, Hokusai and many others. Using block print, water colors, sculpture and the various techniques Miss Penny has brought the classroom again this year. There are some truly impressive works of art!
