  • Toddler Shape of the Month: Circle

Each month the toddlers focus on one shape.  We immerse ourselves in the shape using all of our senses to reinforce learning.  In September we used our circle shape to create crafts, play large motor games, practiced our fine motor skills, and sang circle songs!

We combined our theme and shape to create a circle “I am special” mirror.

A little sneak peak of our culminating art projects for the end of the year.

The toddlers do one project a month – we will send them home in May!

We also combined our favorite foods theme with a circle craft after reading

the favorite story If You Give a Pig Pancake by Laura Numeroff.

  • Hello Yellow!

Each month the toddlers focus on one color.  September is Yellow!  We have read Hello Yellow and Little Bea, watched and sang along to Heidi’s Hello Yellow video, selected counted and named yellow items in the mystery can, had a yellow hunt in our classroom, played with yellow play-dough, tasted yellow lemons, and used half lemons as a stamper to make circle prints!  We will continue to explore yellow throughout the month.

  • Orientation Days in the Toddler Classroom with Ms. Kristen

The toddlers had a terrific time exploring the classroom and playground, meeting new friends, and learning through play!

  • Zoo, Ocean, and Pond

The toddlers used their senses to explore and learn about zoo animals this week.  The distance learning packet included a one to one correspondence mat for sorting animal crackers, animal masks to use during their classroom live zoom,  Z is for Zebra materials to complete the alphabet, and zoo animal movement activity cards!

Our ocean study included a cupcake wrapper craft, sorting goldfish by color, a video recording of the book Swimmy, and some “growing” ocean animals to place in the sensory tub of water.

The distance packets this week also included five little ducks for retelling the song, materials to make a frog craft, and lily pads for hopping to engage our toddlers in learning about pond animals.

We rounded out the year by sending home rainbow waterbeads, toddler trail mix suggestions, lacing necklace materials, name building materials, and paint to complete the end of year personalized color book!

Thank you to all the parents for helping us to help your toddlers grow and learn.  Thumbs up to year full of learning, fun, and smiles!

Our Shape Review included lacing button shapes, shape match- up mat, shape collage, shape cards complete with an interactive zoom to give live feedback, shape stories, and more!

Our live zoom also included some gross motor bean bag fun!

Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic favorite for all.  I read the story via video and retold the story using magnets.  The toddlers were provided with materials to craft their own caterpillar and fun temporary tattoos too!

  • Bunnies and Eggs Distance Learning

The Distance Learning Packet this week included lots of fun surprises and activities!

Watercolor paints and stickers were provided to create special Easter cards.

Washi Tape and circle stickers provided some good fine motor practice while decorating oval eggs.

Matching bunny tails was a big hit too!

The jelly bean match up was a quick practice in color matching with a fun treat at the end.  Counting bunny crackers too!

The mystery can was full of veggies and the match up sheet was fun practice naming different vegetables and fruits, sorting by color and type!

A baggie of eggs that were filled with different movement activities provided some fun outside or inside!

Our Zoom toddler music class was so much fun with Ms. Joanie!

  • Rainbow Distance Learning

Distance Learning is off to a terrific start!  Rainbow activities filled the bag last week and the toddlers had so much fun sorting, coloring, and eating 🙂

    Fruit Loop Sorting Mat

After sorting into colors the toddler plans suggested a fun rainbow snack.  This activity requires knowing colors, fine motor stringing, and using all the senses!

A rainbow name building activity was included in the bag of materials as well!

The weather provided some time to practice drawing rainbows with chalk outside.

Also included in the grid were several links to story time with Ms. Kristen, group time, and fun movement activities that we have done at school!

It is so fun to see our families working with our school to help these toddlers learn and grow!  Stay tuned to see our toddlers in action using the activities and materials included in Distance Learning packet Week 2!
