In Preschool Prep, we were able to explore the inside of different fruits and vegetables! First, we made predictions of what we might find inside each fruit or vegetable. Then, we cut them open and made observations about the foods. We were able to try a taste of each type of fruit and vegetable at snack time!
The lemons were so sour!!
In preschool prep we have been learning all about seeds! Specifically, how they grow and what they need to grow into beautiful plants. We have planted pumpkin, corn, green bean, sugar snap pea and radish seeds! We are seeing the changes first hand. Each vegetable plant has sprouted and is continuing to grow as we take care of them.
Each child also planted their own grass seed in a plastic cup. We added silly pictures of each student to the outside of their cup. With the grass growing on top, it looks like they are growing green hair!
We had a visitor in our classroom last week! Ms. Katelyn brought in her pet ferret, Swiper for us to look at and pet!
We have lots of great bakers in our preschool prep classroom! We all worked together to make homemade chocolate chip cookies that we were able to eat for snack! Yumm 🙂
Last week we learned all about the butterfly life cycle in preschool prep! The students were able to watch a life cycle video, complete an activity where they put all of the cycle steps in order, helped to act out the stages of the life cycle and finally, listen to a reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar! What a fun day!
We learned that the first step of the life cycle is for the mother butterfly to lay eggs on a leaf. Next, a baby caterpillar emerges from its egg. (We learned that the baby caterpillar feeds on its egg shell before eating anything else!) We had some volunteers act out these stages 🙂
After the caterpillar can’t eat anymore and grows bigger, it builds a cocoon around itself called a chrysalis. It grows and changes in this chrysalis for about 15 days! We wrapped some of our friends in a pretend chrysalis to act out this step!
When the caterpillar is ready, it breaks free from its chrysalis and is no longer a caterpillar, but a beautiful butterfly!
This month we have been doing many hands on activities in the classroom! Check out some of these fun activities below!
-We completed a class measuring project! Each person was measured with yarn that was displayed on the board!
-April’s science focus is on bugs and insects. We had a full insect day where the kids were able to color insects, dig for insects, read about insects and act like insects!
-We did a fun gross motor/ letter/ shape activity! Each student took turns picking a letter out of my bowl. They had to tell me its name and sound. Then, they had to get the letter to “Marvin (The Starvin) Alphabet Monster. The tricky part was that they had to take a specific shape path to get to him! (Ex: All green circles).
The Preschool Prep class had a blast celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! They were able to go on a gold hunt, complete St. Patrick’s Day crafts, and have a yummy shamrock shaped treat!
We read the story “The Very Busy Spider” by Eric Carle, and made our very own class spider web!
