For letter “Ii” week, we dedicated a whole day to ice cream related activities! We built our name with scoops of ice cream, did an ice cream themed uppercase/lowercase letter matching activity, counted ice cream scoops (pom poms) onto numbered cones, ate a neapolitan ice cream snack and voted on which flavor we liked best!
The afternoon preschool class explored a pumpkin this week! We measured it and talked about its characteristics (inside and out) using our 5 senses! The students took turns getting their hands dirty and pulling out some of the pumpkin seeds. We ended up roasting those seeds and eating them for snack!
From candy corn art and letter building, to leaf sorting, to spider web letter identification, to pumpkin seed letter matching… Fall is officially in full swing in the Preschool room!
The afternoon Preschool class read the story Corduroy and completed activities that revolved around the “button” theme in the story! We love to use literature to help create thematic lesson plans!
On Friday in Preschool, we covered our table with shaving cream and worked on pre-writing! Sensory play supports language, development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills and social interaction!
We read the story “Perfect Square” and used this as the inspiration for our art project this week. In the story, the squares get ripped and torn, but are created into something new and beautiful. We challenged our preschoolers to think outside of the box! They tore apart their squares and put the pieces together to recreate their square into something new as well!
We have been talking about habitats in Preschool! This week we spent some time focusing on specific habitats such as; the desert, ocean, grasslands, and arctic. The kids had fun sorting some animals into their correct habitats! We discussed what each animal needed from their environment, and if they would be able to survive elsewhere.
