The Early 3’s have been learning to identify the numbers 1-5. They practiced reading numbers written on paper plates and filling the plate with the correct amount of food. This was a great way to practice reading the numbers, counting out the food, and work on one-to-one correspondence all at the same time!
We introduced our shape of the month this morning during small groups. The preschoolers counted the sides of a square and used square sponges to cover their square picture. We played ‘I Spy Squares’ and searched for squares all over our classroom. Play ‘I Spy Squares’ at home with your little one, see how many squares you can discover!
The preschoolers explored the great outdoors today on a nature walk during small groups. We explored and discovered using our senses. Ask your preschooler what special pieces of nature they collected on such a beautiful fall day!
In reading groups today we started the book The Thanksgiving Feast. We went on a picture walk to search for sight words. We read the book together and connected the first Thanksgiving to our own Thanksgiving celebrations with friends and family. The Pre-Kers circled the sight word ‘will’ and colored the illustrations of the book.
In reading groups today we started a new book called Pilgrim, Pilgrim. We explored new vocabulary and practiced writing the words pilgrim, Mayflower, and Thanksgiving.
Today in Pre-K we explored further into the lives of pilgrims. We learned about their hard journey on the Mayflower and decided what we would bring if we had to make the trip to a new land.
Today the preschoolers explored the letter M. We learned how to build the letter with our Handwriting Without Tears letter mats and wooden blocks.
The preschoolers listened to My ‘M’ Book and brainstormed all the words they could think of that started with ‘m’.
We strengthened our fine motor muscles by using stickers to fill the capital M. We discussed and learned more about the Mayflower today.
